What is Estrogen?
The hormone ‘Estrogen’ is a group of steroids and is very necessary for the woman health. It supports the osteoblasts that help to construct bones. Estrogen Replacement Therapy
The ERT therapy helps prevent fractures or loss of calcium in the bones and increase the bone compactness. It also helps to decrease the risks of mental stress or emotional irritability, compassion of vagina, heart attacks and blood cholesterol level. It has also been observed that this therapy can reduce the chances of Alzheimer’s disease, muscle pain etc.
However, an intake of Estrogen in Osteoporosis in any form can also have some side effects like for example uterine coating or endometrium or side effects on possible pregnancy. It has also been observed that if a patient takes an estrogen treatment can increase the risks of cancer. There are also cases of durable effects of progestins and increase of blood cholesterol or risk of heart problems and even breast cancer especially in those women who smoke. Some of the patients have also complained about a severe headache, change in vision, chest pains, leg pains, breathing problems, swollen legs or feet, unexpected weight gain, unexpected pain in breast, illness, tiredness, muscle pains etc. In such cases the patient should always contact a doctor.
If a person has a family history of Osteoporosis, cancer, any disease in bones, gallbladder disease, stroke, kidney disease, epilepsy, fibroids etc should always go for a proper test before taking an ERT. Estrogen can also affect the other intake of drugs like those Calcium supplements, or drugs for cancer. A patient should also avoid smoking or any other intake of alcohol while taking the ERT treatment. The women who are in early menopause or have uterine or breast cancer, blood clots, very poor liver functions or liver disease should also go for ERT with a proper precaution.
